Unexpected Beneficial Effect of Dexamethasone Administration after Septoplasty Procedure: As Prospective Cohort Audit

Background and Objectives: Septoplasty is one of the most common surgical procedures in specialty otorhinolaryngology. Therefore, there are frequent thoughts regarding this procedure to improve its conditions from different aspects, indications, time surgery, techniques, safety measures, postoperative care. One big issues post-operative sequel complications namely pain, oro-facial edema, air way obstruction, epistaxis, nausea vomiting, nasal atrophic rhinitis, induction allergic septal perforation synachia formation. study was conducted prospectively confirm effect intravenous administration dexamethasone on outcomes as compared oral ketoprofen well paracetamol after septoplasty procedure. Patients Methods: Two- thousands two- hundred thirteen patients aged 4 years 65 presented at ENT department-Althowra central teaching hospital Altarahom private clinic-elbyda city-Libya period between September 2005 January 2022 cases DNS with variable patterns deformities for septoplasty. Five thirty- were received who represent group-A, 753 that constitutes group-B, while remaining 929 administrated by classified group-C. As prospective analytic study, three groups relation significant risk airway In addition, these any difference hospitalization, which can be used, objective indicator measure morbidity rate. Results: Dexamethasone caused improvement pain intensity group. On other hand reduction incidence formation among group-B C group-A. Conclusion: considered potent analgesic drug same time, it plays role commonly used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
